NYC Attractions

July 26th, 2009 — 11:20pm

Airplane ticket? √

Hotel? √

Now it’s time to plan your days in NYC…from the mouth watering restaurants and bakeries, the extraordinary and must see landmarks, and the hundreds of boutiques that you have to visit.  Whether it’s your first time or even if you’re a repeat visitor in the city, there’s always something new and exciting to do in the city.  I always have to prepare an itinerary for myself.  It’s so easy to get caught up when you’re walking down a street and your eye catches something in the window that you must have!  Also, Manhattan is a large city and it takes quite some time to travel from Uptown to Downtown so you have to plan your days wisely…spend an entire day downtown than spend the next day uptown.  Just remember, don’t expect to get everything done in one day.

You don’t need a map anymore!  Well sort of…Now there’s a website called ‘’ that you can log on to directly from your phone.  You’ll have to provide the ‘to and from’ addresses and VOILA!  Metro (subway) directions on how to get to your destination will pop up.  It tells you how far you are from the subway entrance and what trains to catch.  It’s so simple!

Places you should see…

I love animals!  I make it a point to visit zoos and aquariums in all the cities I visit.  If you’re strolling through Central Park, visit the Central Park Zoo!  It may take up about an hour of your time and costs $8.  Many of the exhibits are built with a see-through divider which makes it easier to look at the animals up close.  Watch for the polar bears!

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (also known as the Guggenheim Museum) is another popular attraction with 600 various artworks that were purchased or gifted to the museum between 1937 and 1949.  The Guggenheim is an internationally renowned art museum and one of the most significant architectural icons of the 20th century.  There’s a viewing of different exhibitions of modern and contemporary art throughout the year.  And, you’ll get a great work out walking up the six story circular path.  $18

Fifth Avenue Shopping

Welcome to Fifth Avenue!  This is only the beginning…of the shopping and the congestion.  On this street, you’ll see lots of tourists like yourself who are looking for low to high end quality shopping.  You’ll find the ever popular H&M to the sophisticated Henri Bendel here.  But don’t get too caught up in the shopping because you never know which celebrity just walked pass you.

JG Melon

1291 3rd Avenue

What a day!  After a very long day of sight-seeing and shopping, you’ll need to grab a bite to eat.  I love eating at J.G. Melon located on the Upper East Side.  This place is jam packed with people wanting to eat a hearty all-American meal…a delicious cheeseburger and fries with a glass of Stella Artois.  You’ll feel leaving satisfied and ready to call it a night.

Eating at Gray’s Papaya

July 12th, 2009 — 5:02pm

Don’t you feel like there’s not enough time in a day to do everything you want?  That’s what it feels like whenever you’re in the city.   There’s always so much to do in such little time because I’ve gotta do my marathon SHOPPING…all day!  Sometimes I have to grab a quick bite to squeeze in all the shopping and a little bit of sight seeing!  On days like these, I head to Gray’s Papaya for a quickie!  They’re famous for their dirt cheap and high quality tastin’ hot dogs.  And, I do mean ‘dirt cheap.’  A hot dog and a papaya drink (hence the name Gray’s Papaya) for a couple of dollars…NOW, we can all afford that!

Grey's Papaya

39 Eighth Avenue at 37th Street

Gray’s Papaya caters to your late night hunger cravings…they’re open 24 hours at all 4 of their locations on the West side of Manhattan.

P.S.  This place was featured on Sex And The City when Carrie Bradshaw grabbed a bite to eat after her book release party !

Bonjour Pastis!

July 5th, 2009 — 7:01pm

There are so many restaurants to eat in Manhattan.  So how do you know where to eat? You could follow the crowd heading towards Pastis.   This French bistro is located in the Meatpacking district and specializes in hearty Provencal dishes.  You can enjoy varies dishes like Croque-Monsieur to Steak Frites w/Béarnaise…they’re all delectable.

Today, the Meatpacking district is known for its architecture, salons, and FASHION!  After you grab a bite to eat, you can find the streets flooded with boutiques.  But be aware, you must have some serious cash to burn. You’ll walk along boutiques such as Christian Louboutin, Alexander McQueen, and Catherine Malandrino…all of which are luxury boutiques we often dream about.

9 Ninth Avenue

It’s always refreshing to sit in their French inspired outdoor seating area.  Plus, you’ll never know which celebrity may dine in!

If you decide to eat at Pastis, make a reservation!  This popular destination is crowded all day every day. Trust me, you don’t want to drop in unexpectedly.

You can also visit Balthazar which is owned by the same owner.  But don’t get confused, there’s a Balthazar Restaurant and a Balthazar Bakery.

Banana Pudding Recipe

July 1st, 2009 — 10:22pm

My friend Jan shared this recipe with me while we were spending our summer in the Hamptons and I have to share it with you.  It’s her Aunty’s “secret” recipe and now one of my all time favorite desserts to make.  It’s quite simple and pretty effortless to make it yourself…anyone can do it!  There’s no baking involved!  But, it’s only scrumptious if you love or at least like bananas.  If not, I suppose you could make it for your loved ones…

Just be careful.  The banana pudding is dangerous..Why?  Not only does it taste delicious, it is extremely light and fluffy so you’ll never really feel stuffed.  I guarantee that you’ll go back for seconds!  But don’t plan your workout regimen just yet…it’s not as fattening as indulging in a cupcake!  That’s for sure.

Banana Pudding

Banana Pudding:

1 ½ Cup Milk

1 Pkg Vanilla Instant Pudding

4 Oz Sour Cream

1 Lrg Cool Whip COOL WHIP

2 Bananas Sliced

1 Box Vanilla Wafers (Nilla preferred)

Mix the milk and pudding together.  Stir well and then add the sour cream and 1/2 of the cool whip.  Then add the bananas.  Crush the wafers and fold it in with a spatula and mix all together.  Then pour into a bowl.  To complete it, spread the remaining cool whip on top.  Chill for about an hour.  Yum yum…can’t wait!

Here’s a suggestion…

If you’re having a party, you can pour the mix into small individual bowls and then add the cool whip before chilling.
