DOLCE’s little prisoner…Bronx

September 30th, 2009 — 6:22pm

Bronx is a 10 month old Tibetan Spaniel that hangs out at DOLCE about twice a week.  He’s getting ready for his television debut on KHON 2 this Friday for the Price Buster segment for Halloween costumes for dogs (he’ll be a bee that day).

Farmer’s Market…NYC Style!

September 27th, 2009 — 5:29pm

Farmer’s Market

Besides fashion, food is another passion of mine.  On my recent trip to NYC, my girlfriends and I visited Union Square’s Farmer’s Market located between 14th Street and Broadway.  And then we headed to one of my all-time favorite store…Anthropologie (located at 85th Fifth Ave, between 15th & 16th).

The farmer’s market is perfect for stocking up on fruits and vegetables as well as donuts, fresh milk, flowers, and other specialty items.  Instead of fighting our temptation, we purchased bags filled with fruits and vegetables to take with us while we traveled.  I don’t know if anyone could leave empty handed.  And, everything is sold for ‘dirt cheap.’  You just can’t resist!

Look at Some of Our Delicious Treats…

I can’t remember the names of these plums, but they were yummy!  The street vendors slice all the plums so you can do a little sampling before you commit to your purchase.  How sweet and juicy they all were..the green one, the purple one, and the red one..

Oh and these apples were delicious too!  I purchased a couple of the red ones (the ones closest to the green apples) and I just fell in love with them.  They were ripe and crunchy!

NFM

I’ve never seen these before but there’s a booth that sells ‘cider donuts.’  They looked like they were freshly baked, but I can’t tell you how they tasted because my friend Jan forgot to share them with us!  She was kind enough to report back that they were yummy…boo hoo.

Here I am showing off my bag of goodies!  I bought various donut peaches (my favorite, especially the green one!), apples, and plums.

Look at all the people sampling the various fresh squeezed juice!  All the vendors believe in sampling so you know what you’re buying.  And believe me, it worked!

Otto on 5th!

September 20th, 2009 — 11:16pm

I had dinner at Otto for my last night in the city…there were so many places I wanted to eat and this was one of them.  This fabulous Italian style restaurant is known for their amazing pizza and incredible pasta dishes.  Everything on the menu was absolutely satisfying; hands down.

When you walk through the restaurant, it almost feels like you’re in Italy dining with your friends and family. It’s a perfect place to dine for party of two and large enough for parties of ten or more.  And, it’s children friendly!  Definitely mark this on your map.

Otto

Say ‘cheese!’  Karli, Jan, Nadine, and I just stuffed ourselves.  Our next stop, McGovern’s Bar…

Otto

The pizzeria serves a variety of pizza, pasta, and salads.  I loved everything; however, the pasta dish (located in the back left) which consists of spinach and sausage was everyone’s favorite dish and apparently Rachel Ray’s too.  Honestly, you can’t go wrong on any of their selections.  You’ve got to try them all!

Boy, were we stuffed (as you can see)! You can also try some of Otto’s sister restaurants like Babbo, Lupa, and Tartine.

Shackin’ It Up!

September 13th, 2009 — 2:52pm

I found this amazing new burger joint in NYC…it’s called “Shake Shack!”  The food is incredibly juicy, tasty, and mouth-watering that you’ll want a second round.  If you’re ever in the city, I highly recommend that you make it a point to visit the Shack!  A warning in advance…when I spotted the eatery across the street, all I saw was the huge crowd of people waiting to order or munching on their food.  The line was out the door, but it went by quickly that I was able to order within 10 minutes.  And if you can’t find a table to sit on, there’s a seating area downstairs (many customers don’t know about it). I give it two thumbs UP!

Shake Shack…

This is the view from across the street!  The Shake Shack is located on the Upper West next to the Museum of Natural History.

What did I eat for lunch??  I don’t quite remember because I inhaled everything so quickly.  Well I didn’t get their famous shakes but I did order their ‘Shack Burger,’ fries, and The Arnold Palmer (half lemonade and half iced tea).  The result…everything and I mean EVERYTHING was delicious!  And the price was affordable…I’ll definitely be back!

Until we meet again Shake Shack…What did I wear in the city?  The temperature was mild so I wore an outfit that was perfect for a summer day…my fLuXus loose v, Daftbird’s tunic tank, shorts (from the GAP), and an old vintage with Asha’s zodiac pendant.  I received many compliments that day!

My Morning Visit to SoHo

September 6th, 2009 — 3:41pm

It’s a love, hate relationship when it comes to SoHo.  I love all the little boutiques as well as many of the big name brand stores when spending the day shopping.  There’s also a variety of restaurants and dessert treats you’ll discover as you walk down the cobble stone streets.   Also, the persistent street vendors who sell knock off jewelry, bags, and old movie and tv scripts are here.  The only problem is the congestion!  It’s always crowded with NY natives and tourists who love to shop!  But even so, I still love it in SoHo.

In the mornings, I love to grab a bite to eat at the famous Dean & Deluca on Brodway….one word,

D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S!

d & d

Isn’t your mouth watering just looking at all the pastries?  They’re all incredibly tasty so you’ll have to rush to grab your order or it might be too late.  My favorites are the lemon poppy and currant scones.

d & d

Take a look at their fresh produce…blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and strawberries are almost always available.

d & d

Hydrangeas are my favorite flowers.  D&D has a section of brightly colored flowers…you can find your own in the bunch.

                                                                                                                                                    d & d

Aww, look what I found waiting for their owner outside D&D.  Aren’t they adorable?

One of a Kind…

September 5th, 2009 — 2:37pm

I just discovered another great accessory to add to the ‘DOLCE’ collection….One of a Kind’s hamsa bracelet. We’ve seen the infamous red string bracelet with the dangling hamsa on many celebrities including Lauren Conrad, Jessica Alba, and Nicole Richie.  If you didn’t know…the “hamsa” (also known as the hand) is an ancient amulet used for MAGICAL protection from the evil eye.  I’m not one for believing in superstitions but hey, a little protection can’t hurt!

Available in Silver and Gold ($40)
