EATALY..da una parte

September 26th, 2010 — 10:57am

The world famous Mario Batali built an Italian universe where we can all appreciate the finest quality of Italian food, drinks, & products.  EATALY!  It’s pure bliss as you walk through the doors.  As the Italians say it, “Magnifico!”  If you don’t know who Mario Batali is, he owns several of my favorite restaurants–Babbo, Lupa, & Otto.  Eataly (combination of Eat & Italy) is everyone’s favorite new hot spot or I would call it a 50,000 sq ft haven that is divided into various sections; pasta, cheese, seafood, meats, & desserts.  It’s amazing…I spent hours on Friday and could’ve spent all day there.  You can eat at the restaurants, sip on Italian made cappuccino, or purchase various Italian souvenirs.  Translation–chocolates, pasta, risotto, and lots more.  Add this down on your list of places to visit in NYC!

It is impossible to write about Eataly in one blog.  I spent a couple of hours in the pasta section alone and it will take me a few entries to properly show you what I’ve experienced.  Enjoy the next couple of blogs!

As you walk through the doors, you see a long of people waiting for their scoop of gelato.  It’s pure madness and it was only the beginning of what was in store for us several yards down…

Although I couldn’t read the Italian labels, everything was package so beautifully.  You just want everything in sight.  Here’s a shot of a variety of Italian sodas & juices.  I just love the colors.

I headed to preview the prosciutto…

And right across was a mini selection of cheese.

I was practically in Italy as I walked through the prosciutto.

This was my favorite section…homemade, fresh pasta!  There was too many to select from.

I came across the seafood section and it was a sight to see.  I’ve never seen such large scallops, live sea urchins, and razor clams…

These were wild…and unusual.  Have you had these before?

The live sea urchins caught my attention.  There was one that was cracked to give you a preview of what was in store for you.

On the other side of the seafood corner were the fresh fish…and even a mako shark!

Oh, this meat section was covered in vibrant, rich reds.

Look at all the meats they have to offer….

Stay tuned!
